Much of this is nonsense. The challenge with manufacturing jobs is that it's easier to import products from other countries, while the workforce is not paid at the same level as US workers. Converting all the factories to automation won't help manufacturing; it will reduce the needed workforce while also increasing the cost of manufacturing products. An increase in skilled labor and machinery costs will raise the hourly cost of producing items, from the largest to the smallest. If we haven't already seen this problem in the auto industry, then we're not seeing the full picture.
